What is Reiki?
Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive energy practice that complements other medical and mental health treatments. It supports relaxation, helps to relieve stress, and promotes healing.
What will you feel?
Lots of things...in a non-overwhelming way! Mostly, you will feel peace and release. You may experience some of these sensations: warmth or cold, tingling or vibrating, muscle release, heaviness, sleepiness, comfort, relaxation, and ease. Some people hear intuitive messages, see images, and experience mental clarity or spaciousness. You might notice signs of energy releasing such as sneezing, yawning, crying, burping, watery eyes, stomach gurgling. These sensations can be obvious or more subtle.
What happens during a session?
You will come to my home office, and we will begin by talking about what is present for you emotionally, physically, and/or spiritually. You will then get comfortable on the reiki bed. I have pillows, weighted blankets, and eye masks. During the reiki treatment, I will play relaxing music, offer the scent of essential oils, and place my hands either lightly on you or over you (no touch), depending on your preference. I will guide you into your body with some breathwork and offer a short meditation. After the treatment, we’ll reconvene for a chat. You’ll drink some water or tea and note any shifts, feelings, or sensations that arose for you during the session. I’ll share my own observations if you’d like them. We may generate ideas for at-home reflection and extension in the form of journal prompts, meditative exercises, and more. We can also modify this for a virtual reiki experience
Does it really work?
It really does! I decided to practice reiki myself because I felt its effect on me - on my physical, mental, and spiritual healing - so powerfully! This is my own experience, but multiple studies have corroborated it. It’s important to note that reiki is a complement to other medical and mental health treatments and not to be used in place of them. Here are a couple of studies to check out: 1) The Effect of Reiki on Pain 2) A Large-Scale Effectiveness Trial of Reiki for Physical and Psychological Health
How does this fit with Parent Coaching?
It fits beautifully! I will continue to offer parent coaching sessions without reiki, reiki sessions without parent coaching, and a mash-up of both. Of course, “parenting” (that weird, modern verb!) is not confined to the thinking brain, and energy healing will affect how you show up as a parent. I feel that the two naturally work together. I wanted to add reiki to my offerings to invite clients to...
*Go deeper. Yup, being a parent brings up some old wounds and adding reiki to our sessions will allow more space to allow them to surface and heal.
*Experience relief at the nervous system level. Parent coaching can be cognitively and emotionally laborious. Pairing it with the practice of reiki allows your nervous system to recuperate and regulate.
Simply put, this is another powerful tool to help you shift not only what you do and say, but how you feel and process, in the context of parenting and other relationships.
Training
I received my certification in Usui Reiki levels I and II from Reiki Master, Kristie Goldstein. She is a force of nature and taught me to be intuitive, ethical, straightforward, and compassionate in my work. My Mindful Parenting Certification allows me to offer the tools of mindful communication and accessible meditation to our sessions. I am also currently pursuing certifications in both Trauma Sensitive Mindfulness and Somatic Embodiment & Regulation Strategies. My goal is to provide a safe container in which you can hear your inner wisdom and pursue deep healing
